Background to the Energy Efficient Homes Package
The Australian Government is investing $4 billion in the Energy Efficient Homes Package to improve the energy efficiency of Australian homes.
This package will help householders cut their energy waste, make their homes more comfortable and save on energy bills.
As part of the Australian Government’s $42 billion Nation Building – Economic Stimulus Plan, the Energy Efficient Homes Package will help to stimulate the economy, supporting thousands of jobs in manufacturing, distribution and installation in the midst of an economic downturn.
For most homes, ceiling insulation is the simplest, most effective and cheapest way to make your house far more energy efficient, keeping you cooler in summer and warmer in winter.
As much as 35 per cent of the heat lost from your house goes out through an uninsulated ceiling.
Installing ceiling insulation alone has the potential to cut your home heating and cooling bills by up to $200 a year. Cost savings depend on the construction of your home, its location and your overall energy consumption patterns.
Insulation can also reduce condensation on your walls and ceilings, leading to improved health outcomes for you and your family!
The Government estimates that up to 40 per cent of Australian homes are not insulated. The assistance offered by this package is specifically targeted at the installation of new ceiling insulation in these homes.
The two programs in the package provide a rebate of up to $1600 for homeowners, or $1000 for landlords and/or tenants, to fit new ceiling insulation in eligible dwellings that are currently uninsulated, or have very little ceiling insulation.
Assistance of up to $1,600 is available to help approximately 2.2 million eligible owner-occupiers install ceiling insulation in their existing privately-owned homes.
Landlords can apply for assistance of up to $1000 for each rental and other property they own. This includes dwellings where they do not receive rental payments and untenanted properties (eg holiday homes). It is expected that approximately 700,000 rental households will benefit from this offer.
North Coast Insulation is registered with the Australian Government as an accredited Installer Provider. We are ready to help residents of the mid north coast of NSW (between Buladelah and Scott’s Head) determine your eligibility for the rebate, and to supply a quotation to install your new ceiling insulation.
